Vape Device Maintenance Guide: How Should I Keep My Vape?
Have you ever felt guilty for not caring for your beloved vape device? Well, don't be disheartened just yet. We all have been there, and we know how it feels to start on your vaping journey, all excited and pumped up but with virtually no information related to its maintenance, care, and safe use.
Look no further—we have created your comprehensive vape guide. It covers everything you need to know about your vape device, the upkeep and whereabouts of your vape juice, and how to take proper care of both.

How Do You Store Used Vapes?
You just unpacked your new vape device, filled its tank or pod with your favorite vape juice, and enjoyed those punching hits to your throat for some time. It feels as fulfilling and refreshing as it can be. But now the question arises: how will you safely keep your vape device during inactivity to allow optimum performance for weeks, months, or even years to come? Sit tight; here is precisely how it is done:
🍁Keep Your Device Upright:
Keeping your vape device upright or standing when left unused is best. It prevents the coil from oversaturating, ensuring smooth, consistent puffing throughout. This way, you can also avoid unnecessary leaks from the tank/pod, as oversaturating ultimately leads to leakage or flooding.
🍁Maintain Original Packaging:
The box your vape device came in was tailor-made for that particular device. You better believe your device feels at home when placed in its original package. This is a great way to maintain an upright position and keep humidity away from the device.
🍁Store in a Cool and Dry Place:
Keeping your device away from direct heat is a must. Heat will damage its battery and mess up your vape juice’s composition, causing a loss in flavor. It also results in leaks and clogging of airways. Your device performs best when kept dry. It doesn’t like humidity much, as it can damage the battery and rust down the metallic parts, compromising performance.
🍁Store Away From Sunlight:
When exposed to sunlight directly, the components of your vape juice are prone to breakdown, consequently compromising its strength and flavor. Therefore, storing your vape in a dark place is necessary, minimizing sunlight exposure. Consider using a drawer or a closet for this purpose.
🍁Charge Your Battery:
Charging is essential for working; everyone knows that much. But do you know you are still required to keep your device charged if you no longer use it? Yes, it is recommended because it will prevent your vape’s battery from eventually dying out, which would happen otherwise during long inactivity.
How Do You Care For Your Vape Devices?
Maintaining good care of your device satisfies your vaper’s instincts and ensures optimal performance in the long run. Here are some key points to consider as a comprehensive care routine for your device:
-
Clean Regularly:
It is advised to clean your vape tank and coil every time you change flavors. It removes the residues and prevents getting that pinch of the last flavor left in the tank before you refill it with a new one. A simple rinse with water and cleaning will do. But now and then, you must also thoroughly clean your device with an alcohol-based cleanser. It will keep your device running for months and even years to come. -
Replace Your Coil:
No matter how frequently and thoroughly you clean your tank, there will come a time when your coil gives up and starts producing those burnt-out vapors. It will also produce considerably less smoke. That’s how you know it is your time to replace the coil or the pod in case of built-in coils. Always prime a new coil before first use by letting it rest for a few minutes after filling in the vape juice. -
Check For Breakage and Leaks:
Regularly inspect your vape device for any potential damage and work to minimize the risk of posing that threat. Prevention is always better than cure. This way, you should be able to prevent any breakages and leaks or replace that part, if needed, before it's too late. -
Keep The Lid On:
If your device’s mouthpiece comes with a lid, leave it on whenever you are not using it. The lid is there to serve a purpose. It keeps debris and moisture from settling in the airways, eventually resulting in the same refreshing vaping experience, unaltered for a prolonged duration. -
Tightly Seal Your Vape Juice:
Ensure that little to no air and moisture get into your juice container. You can do that by keeping its lid tightly sealed. Air is harmful to the juice as it reacts with its components and oxidizes them, consequently deteriorating their quality. A gradual change in color and viscosity will be visible as a sign of oxidation. Minimizing air contact with your juice is the best way to prevent that. -
Regulate Temperature:
Your vape performs best when kept between 15–21°C. The same is the case with your e-liquid. It is best kept at room temperature, preferably below 25°C, to keep flavor sustained and nicotine potent. -
Battery Care:
The battery is what keeps your device running. Consider it as the lifeline of your vape, and maintain good care practices as much as possible. That would include:
- 🏻Avoid Overcharging - leaving your device on charge unattended for a long time will eventually compromise its health and result in abnormal changes in its shape and size.
- 🏻Use Recommended Charger - If your device’s model recommends a particular charger, always prefer using it for best performance and prolonged battery health.
- 🏻Detachable Battery - usage of dedicated battery chargers is recommended for removable batteries. Avoid charging them through the device’s port.
- 🏻Avoid Metal Exposure - Prolonged exposure to metal (coins, keys, etc.) may create circuits with batteries, subsequently resulting in overheating.
Does Vape Juice Expire?
All juice manufacturing companies are required by law to mention the expiry date of their product. It can typically go up to three years from the manufacturing date. High PG (propylene glycol) juices are supposed to last 2 to 3 years, while high VG (vegetable glycerol) e-liquids are usually capped at 1 to 2 years of shelf life.
These dates, however, indicate the time frame in which that particular vape juice is expected to produce the best results. Once that time is over, the juice’s flavor will start losing its distinct character and punch, and it might taste sweeter. There will also be a noticeable color change, gradually turning yellowish and brownish as time passes.
Hence, similar to the before date, vape juices can still be consumed after the mentioned expiration date. The expired ones will not be as good as the new ones. But if the juice starts giving off a weird smell or stale taste, with an unusual change in consistency (either too thin or thick), it is better to quit and discard it.
How to Clean Your Vape Effectively?
An important part of the recommended care routine for your vape device is cleaning it regularly. But knowing how to do it with the best effect is just as important. Most of the time and energy you put into cleaning your vape device may be wasted simply because you don’t know how to do it properly.

Worry not; we have got you covered; here is a breakdown of the step-by-step process you can follow to clean your vape effectively:
1️⃣Start by removing your tank and carefully disintegrating its components (tank glass, coil, mouthpiece).
2️⃣Discard the leftover juice.
3️⃣Place all components in a bowl of warm water and give them a good rinse one by one.
4️⃣Softly rub with a paper towel or cotton swab to remove any remaining residues.
5️⃣Let everything air dry for 10-15 minutes or until completely dry.
6️⃣Also, clean your device's buttons, screen, battery, and connections with a dry cloth or paper towel. Especially make sure that there is no juice residue or debris buildup on the connection points where the tank/pod will fit in.
For the occasional alcohol cleaning, non-flavored vodka, vinegar, or isopropyl alcohol are best suited for breaking down vape juice deposits. Just soak a cloth or paper towel in alcohol and thoroughly scrub all the tank components. After that, put them in a warm water bowl for rinsing and follow the cleaning steps in the same way as mentioned earlier.
